About MAV
The Mechatronics Academy (MAV) at Volkswagen is a unique partnership between Hamilton County Schools, Chattanooga State Community College, and Volkswagen. Located on the Volkswagen campus, this program is ideal for students in grades 11 & 12 who are interested in mechatronics, pre-engineering, hands-on learning, and a professional, business-style environment with small class sizes. Students earn both high school and college credits while working with state-of-the-art equipment and developing essential workforce skills that are in high demand across industries. Participants remain enrolled at their home high school and continue to enjoy all the benefits and extracurricular opportunities of their zoned school—while gaining access to an advanced, career-focused educational experience.
MAV students benefit from:

- Engaging in hands on learning using state of the art technology at the Volkswagen facility;

Student Eligibility
Student Eligibility Criteria:
- 11th & 12th grade students with satisfactory attendance and discipline history;
- Must have a minimum 2.0 GPA; and
- Must have passed all high school courses and be on track for graduation.
Additionally, students must exhibit the following traits to be successful in an industrial and professional setting: maturity, discipline, self-advocacy, and time management.
Application Process
Applications for the 2026-2027 school year have closed. Applications for the 2027-2028 school year will open in the Fall of 2026. Please complete this interest form if you would like to be emailed when applications open.
Tuition and Fees
Dual Enrollment classes are based on the tuition rates set forth by Chattanooga State and may change annually. Grants are offered for qualifying Juniors and Seniors that, to date, have covered all expenses. However, grant funding is for qualifying students and are subject to change each academic year. Out of state and out of district students will also be required to pay a percentage of the current out of state/district tuition rate to Hamilton County Schools. This tuition may fluctuate annually.
